Daniel Dias grabs Men’s 100m freestyle gold – 2012 Paralympic Games
Daniel Dias of Brazil grabbed gold medal of the Men’s 100m freestyle in S5 category on final day of the swimming events at the 2012 London Paralympic Games in Aquatics Centre on Saturday, September 8.
Dias smothered hopes of his opponents in the double lap freestyle event as he made his way to the finishing wall for gold medal.
The Brazilian swimmer remained in a considerable lead over his toughest challenger throughout the discipline and tapped the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 09.35 seconds for gold medal.
The gold medallist was followed by Roy Perkins of USA, who remained 4.43 seconds slower and hit the finishing blockade for silver medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 14.78 seconds.
Perkins was chased by Sebastian Rodriguez of Spain, who was 0.92 seconds behind and finished third in the event by submitting a time of 1 minute and 15.70 seconds.
The bronze medallist was followed by Dmytro Kryzhanovskyy of Ukraine, who suffered a deficit of 1.18 seconds from his former finisher and hit the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 16.88 seconds for fourth position.
The Ukrainian swimmer was chased by Anthony Stephens of Great Britain, who was 0.35 seconds apart and finished his race in fifth best place by reporting a time of 1 minute and 17.23 seconds.
Stephens was followed by Tung VO Thanh of Vietnam, who remained nearly two seconds away from him and occupied sixth position of the event by clocking a time of 1 minute and 19.83 seconds.
Seventh fastest spot of the race was obtained by James Scully of Ireland, who stayed two body lengths slower from his preceding swimmer and submitted a time of 1 minute and 21.89 seconds.
Last spot of the race was obtained by Takayuki Suzuki of Japan, who stayed three body lengths behind and emerged on the finishing wall for eighth position by posting a time of 1 minute and 24.73 seconds.
In addition, Dias received massive appreciation from the crowd for his exhausting efforts in the discipline and raked award and accolades after the event.
