Daniel Fogg claims Men’s 1500m freestyle gold: Day eight– British Gas Swimming Championships
Daniel Fogg of Loughborough University claimed gold medal of the Men’s 1500m freestyle on concluding day of the 2012 British Gas Swimming Championships at the London Aquatics Centre on Saturday, March 10.
With his commendable struggle, the 24-year-old Fogg not only occupied gold medal of the 1500m discipline but also made his way into the British team to the 2012 London Olympic Games.
He faced tough competition from David Davies of Co Cardiff in the initial 700 metres of the swim. Davies dominated the initial 550 metres the swim by posting a time of 5 minutes and 27.86 seconds while Fogg clocked an effort of 5 minutes and 28.08 seconds
for the equivalent distance.
The same continued in the next two rounds where Davies dictated terms to his strongest challenger but failed to overpower Fogg’s stupendous effort in the eighth round as he produced a time of 7 minutes and 58.27 seconds. His effort remained 0.27 seconds
faster from Davies, who enveloped the similar distance with an effort of 7 minutes and 58.54 seconds.
Fogg continued his supremacy in the next two rounds, where he succeeded in enhancing his lead as he completed his initial 1000 metres of the swim with an effort of 9 minutes and 58.50 seconds. In contrast, Davies remained almost two seconds slower from him
and wrapped up the same distance with an effort of 10 minutes and 00.13 seconds.
With his persistent efforts, Fogg went full throttle in the last five rounds of the swim and cemented his place on the victory stand for gold medal by posting 14 minutes and 55.30 seconds.
His title claiming effort remained 5.43 seconds ahead of Davies, who stepped on the victory stand for silver medal by posting 15 minutes and 00.73 seconds. He was trailed by Fogg’s teammate, Jack Burnell, who stayed almost twenty seconds behind his foregoing
finisher and hit the finishing end with an effort of 15 minutes and 20.13 seconds for bronze medal.
Furthermore, Fogg was delighted with his notable effort in the distant freestyle event and expressed his desire of achieving the same at the upcoming London Games.
