Men’s Doubles team Daniel Font-Oliver Gwilt of Wales stretched their successful run and remained invincible in the final round of Irish Future Series on Sunday, October 14, 2012.
The victorious duo outshined Martin Campbell-Angus Gilmour of Scotland in a hard fought 46-minute tussle.
This title match was staged at local badminton arena of Dublin, Ireland and both teams entertained the crowd with a splendid show of skills.
They challenged each other in all areas of the game and ended this final match with a nerve-racking result of 12-21, 26-24 and 21-16.
Though, Daniel and Oliver took some time to get settled but still they managed to strike hard when it mattered.
On the other hand, Martin-Angus squandered their first set effort in the ending two games and faced a woeful defeat.
The Scottish campaigners took off in perfect manner and bagged first match point with a significant lead in the final total.
They established their grip by putting up a 6-3 margin in no time and then finished the first half of the set with a respectable score position of 11-7.
They did not lose focus after the mid-game break and widened the gap with a couple of productive rallies in a row.
This power packed campaign tipped the scale in their favour and Martin-Angus won the opening game with 21-12 margin.
However, it was end of their winning streak as the opposing team showed a transformed character and levelled the match score with a gutsy knock.
The second set proved a real test for both teams as they had to sweat hard to achieve their respective goals.
At one stage, the Scottish duo was in strong position to register a straight-set victory but then the twosome of Daniel and Oliver came in their way.
The shuttlers from Wales showed commendable fighting spirit and survived this segment of the showdown with a tight yet decisive figure of 26-24.
The decider was expected to be a competitive contest as both contenders were trying to claim top spot on the victory stand.
However, third set provided Daniel and Oliver a solid reason to celebrate as they stole the limelight with an impressive knock of 21-16.
