Daniel Geale retains IBF middleweight title by unanimously beating Osumanu Adama – Boxing news
Daniel Geale, the Australian number one middleweight, successfully defended his IBF middleweight title against the Ghanaian Osumanu Adama and replied to all his insensible puns and taunts by collecting a unanimous decision in the 12-round skirmish.
The bout was scheduled to headline the pay-per-view compiled and promoted by Bill Treacy and was televised on Australia Main Event. The ring was setup at Derwent Entertainment Centre situated in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia on March 7, 2012.
Daniel and Adama, before their Wednesday night encounter, engaged themselves in a very harsh verbal skirmish. It was Adama’s insolence that provoked the cool-headed Daniel to speak up. It must be kept in mind that Adama dubbed Geale a ‘ballet dancer’, a
brawler who does not need to be studied and watched in order to be beaten.
The heat between the two camps reached at a higher level when Adama’s trainer Joseph Awinongya, bragged and offered Daniel camp to prepare documentation for the rematch since Adama will come out of the ring victorious. But Australian fans witnessed that
it was their champ who not only retained his title but effectively replied Adama’s impudent statements in the ring, as per his promise.
After the bout Daniel, widely known as the ‘Real Deal’, graciously praised his opponent and denoted him as a tough pugilist who did really come to fight in the ring. The Aussie 31-year-old said that Adama did perform well but he was hoping of something more,
a bit different and difficult.
Daniel while praising Adama commented, “That was a tough fight. You got to give Adama credit, he came to fight.” Geale, who was defending his title for the second time, said that Adama did come heavy on him in the beginning but later on with the passage
of more and more rounds he started to lose his steam and got fatigued.
Daniel said that Adama definitely did not beat about the bush but he did become diffident in the later rounds. Geale was of the view that he waited in those particular rounds for Adama to come forth and put the pressure on him but it was he who eventually
had to move forward to finalise the things and end the bout.
Daniel pinpointed, “It really wasn’t what we expected - we expected him to come to me, put the pressure on. It was good, I had to come forward.”
Daniel, who is ranked number four in the world and number one in Australia, collected the authoritative scores of 118-110, 117-111, and 115-113 to nail Adama.
Geale, after defeating Adama, has collected his career’s 27th win out of a total 28 skirmishes whereas Osumanu has jotted down in his resume, a third loss out of a total 23 bouts.
