Daniel Gimeno-Traver floors Adrian MacEiras in 1st round – Madrid Challenger 2011
Number three seed Daniel Gimeno-Traver of Spain battled past compatriot Adrian Menendez MacEiras 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 on Monday to book his place in the second round of 2011 Madrid Challenger in Spain.
Gimeno-Traver looked in stunning form in a match that lasted for two hours and twelve minutes. The Spanish tennis pro worked hard for every available point in the opening set as he took the set score lead 1-0. Despite a strong
comeback from his opponent in the second set, Gimeno-Traver continued to play aggressively and he displayed some high quality tennis in the third and final set to seal a memorable victory.
MacEiras will be disappointed with result of the contest. Having done all the right things, he was outplayed in finer details of the game. Making five double faults in the match, the 25-year-old really didn’t help himself. Claiming
only 28 per cent of the points at receiving end, he certainly lacked the firepower in crucial aspects of the game.
Ranked 236th in the Association of Tennis Professional’s ranking, MacEiras will be hoping to improve his game play and he is expected to come back stronger on his next ATP appearance.  World number 87, Gimeno-Traver
on the other hand will be looking to maintain his good form in the upcoming matches here in Madrid. Still in pursuit of his first ever title, Gimeno-Traver will be hoping to make it all the way to the final of Challengers tournament.
Securing his first game of the match with four straight points, Gimeno-Traver had an ideal start to the match. Hitting the ball extremely hard from the baseline, he created all sorts of problems for his rival. Breaking the serve
for the second time in eight game of the set, he took a tricky 6-5 lead, serving for the set. Hitting a blazing serve ace, he clinched the opening set.
MacEiras bounced back brilliantly in the following set. Holding on to his service games and breaking the serve twice, he raced to an impassable game score lead. Dashing a great forehand winner down the line, he evened the set score
1-1 to force the match into a third deciding set.
Both men displayed some top quality tennis in the final set as some nail biting tennis was witnessed. Gimeno-Traver raised the level of his game play and he broke the serve once to earn a vital 4-2 lead. Holding on to the game
score advantage, he completed an emphatic victory to move ahead at the tournament.
