Daniel Gimeno-Traver ousts Dusan Lojda in round one – Copa Sevilla 2012
Second seed, Daniel Gimeno-Traver, stomped over the Czech contender, Dusan Lojda, in straight sets at the Copa Sevilla 2012 on Tuesday. He summed up a 6-2, 6-3 victory against the world number 258 to progress into the second round at this ATP (Association
of Tennis Professionals) Challenger Tour event taking place in Seville, Spain.
The Spanish seed needed one hour and 30 minutes to triumph over Lojda in their second meeting. The contestants previously faced each other at the Prosperita Open five years ago and after earning this success, he maintained his winning record and advanced
into the round of 16 at this outdoor clay court event.
Gimeno-Traver made a poor start at the Real Club de Tenis Betis. He suffered the first blow in the opening game and fell at 0-2. However, the Spaniard unleashed barrage of groundstrokes and reeled off six games in a row. He dusted away three out of four
breakpoints he came across and capitalised on three out of eight break chances to seal the opener with a 6-2 win.
Ranked 113th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Gimeno-Traver kept momentum sailing in the following set. He smoothly bagged his entire serves without facing any breakpoint and got the breakthrough in the sixth game, eventually
clicking the set with a 6-3 win.
Overall, the 27-year-old smacked 10 aces to dominate. He spilled more double faults and produced a lower first serve share of 46 per cent as opposed to his rival’s 61 per cent. However, the Spaniard impressively clicked 19 out of 26 points on it and availed
four out of 10 break chances.
Up next for the seed is the German contender, Nils Langer, who trashed Canada’s Steven Diez in straight sets to set up this meeting.
The seventh seed, Javier Marti, also earned the limelight later that day. He needed one hour and 17 minutes to outsmart Venezuela’s Ricardo Rodriguez in straight sets. The Spaniard was broken twice but cashed in five out of seven break chances to formulate
a 6-3, 6-3 success.
Marti will next face his compatriot, Gerard Granollers, in the pre-quarters.
