Daniel Gimeno-Traver prevailed over Federico Delbonis in the quarter-finals – Madrid Challenger 2012 CH
World number 74, Daniel Gimeno-Traver, defeated the Argentinean rival, Federico Delbonis, in the quarter-finals of the Madrid Challenger 2012 held in Spain. Traver summed up his straight sets 6-4, 6-1 win in approximately one hour
on Friday.
Earlier this year, both the rivals contested against each other at the Marrakech Challenger. The Argentinean junior jolted down his 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 win in the first round and a surprising shocker to his higher ranked rival.
The eighth seeded, Delbonis, commenced the set but was unable to secure the front, as the score line immediately levelled down to 2-all in the fourth game. After than point, the Spaniard broke his rival’s serve and did not miss
a single opportunity. Despite of Delbonis’ attempts he seemed powerless and could not rally past his challenger. In the end, the right-hander local terminated the set with a 6-4 score line.
Ranked 137th in the ATP World Tour Rankings, Delbonis, displayed an average initial serve presentation of 48 percent, bagging away seven of 12 first and 10 of 13 second delivery points. In comparison to that, the Spaniard
had 50 percent initial serve presentation, winning remarkable point score of 12 of 13 first and eight of 13 second serve points. He also secured the lead by securing even the single serve break presented to him.
In the second set, 27-year-old Spanish confidently fired hits and drew the first blood. He maintained his winning edge and remained focused until the end. He broke his rival’s serve and advanced without facing any hindrance. The
Argentinean junior regardless of his losing edge in the game, struggled hard but eventually terminated the set with a bread stick.
The right-hander Argentinean manifested an below average first serve precision of 45 percent, converting 10 of 17 first and just seven of 21 second serve points. The Spanish senior had 60 percent initial serve accuracy, snatching
seven of nine first and five of six second delivery points. He also capitalize on three of the eight break points, whereas his challenger was unable to bag away any.
The fourth seeded, Traver, will battle against the Spanish, Sergio Gutierrez-Ferrol in the semi-final of the ATP Challenger.
