Daniel Grassmueck outshines Matej Hlinican in opening round of 2012 Victor Slovak Open
Men’s Singles expert Daniel Grassmueck of Austria led his country to the pre quarter-finals of the Victor Slovak Open after overpowering Matej Hlinican on Friday, September 7, 2012.
This opening round match lasted for 45 minutes before ending with decisive figures of 21-12, 14-21 and 21-12.
The local badminton arena of Presov, Slovakia was filled to the brim as a huge crowd assembled to support the native shuttler.
However, Matej Hlinican failed to live up to his supporters’ expectations and crashed out of the home event after facing a 1-2 defeat.
On the other hand, the Austrian campaigner stood tall in the pressure situation and locked the honour by pocketing two vital match points.
Daniel Grassmueck set the foundation of his supremacy winning first set with a notable lead of ten points.
He launched an intensive campaign and confined his rival to the rear court by playing attacking badminton. He dominated overall pace of the rallies and kept on gathering valuable points at a steady pace.
The Slovakian shuttler did not have any reply to this flurry of power packed strokes and surrendered after reading 12-21 score on the board.
However, Matej did not remain at the lower end permanently and managed to rise from the dust in the very next game.
This time he played with the right attitude and fortitude to kick-start his campaign and established the upper hand in no time.
He put his challenger under huge pressure by adding some successive points to his total and then strengthened his grip over the game by placing a mountainous margin of 11.
After one-minute interval, Matej injected more intensity to his attack and cornered the Austrian shuttler. He kept the bird under control and finished the second set with an overwhelming figure of 21-14.
There was sheer disappointment for the local crowd in the decider as Daniel silenced them with a thundering knock.
He made his intentions clear by prevailing in some consecutive rallies and kept on stepping forward all the way to game point situation.
Daniel swept the table with 21-12 total and setup next clash with the top seeded Slovenian player Iztok Utrosa in the second round of the event.
