Daniel Gyurta claims Men’s 200m breast-stroke gold: Day four – European SC Swimming Championships
Daniel Gyurta of Hungary exceeded the expectations of his fans by claiming gold medal of Men’s 200m breast-stroke on final day of the 2011 European Short Course Swimming Championships in Szczecin, Poland on Sunday, December 11.
Gyurta became top contender for gold medal in the first lap of the swim. His quickest dive and comparatively stronger strokes placed him considerably ahead of his following swimmer.
With his relentless efforts, he completed his first lap of the swim in a fastest time of 27.94 seconds. He was chased by Michael Jamieson of Great Britain, who remained 0.35 second behind him and ended his lap in a time of 28.29 seconds. Vyacheslav Sinkevich of Russia remained third fastest swimmer of the race as he ended his first lap with a timing of 28.68 seconds.
Jamieson picked up his pace in the second lap of the race but he failed to surpass Gyurta, who ended his second lap with a fastest timing of 59.55 seconds. Jamieson remained 0.16 seconds slower from his former finisher and ended his first round in a time of 59.71 seconds. He was trailed by Sinkevich, who remained third fastest swimmer of the event by completing his swim in a time of 59.99 seconds.
The Hungarian veteran continued his wonderful efforts in the third lap and posted a top ranked time of 1 minute and 30.72 seconds. Meanwhile the arena witnessed a dazzling effort of Sinkevich, who overwhelmed Jamieson’s effort by completing his third lap in a time of 1 minute and 31.38 seconds. Jamieson was 0.15 seconds slower than him and hit the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 31.53 seconds.
In the final lap, the arena witnessed a laudable effort of Gyurta, who clinched gold medal of the event by posting a time of 2 minutes and 02.37 seconds. He was followed by Sinkevich and Jamieson, who ended their swims in second and third place with timings of 2:03.61 and 2:03.77 minutes, respectively.
Furthermore, the podium finishers were awarded prizes for their furious efforts in the breast-stroke discipline after the conclusion of the championship.
