Daniel Gyurta clinches Men’s 200m breast-stroke finals: Day six – 2011 FINA World Championships
Daniel Gyurta won the gold medal of the Men’s 200m breast-stroke meet on the sixth day of the 2011 World Championships, organised by Federation Internationale de Natation on Friday, July 29, in Shanghai, China.
Gyurta displayed his tremendous skills in the final round and pocketed the title of the event, by posting a time of 2 minutes and 08.41 seconds. His time was 1.10 seconds slower than the world mark of 2 minutes and 07.31 seconds, set by Christian Sprenger
of Australia at the 2009 World Championships in Rome.
He was followed by Japanese swimmer and his strongest rival, Kosuke Kitajima, who stayed 0.22 seconds behind the gold medallist and reported a second fastest time of 2 minutes and 08.63 seconds. Christian Vom Lehn of Germany was the third fastest swimmer
of the event, as he occupied the podium for bronze medal, by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 09.06 seconds.
He was followed by American swimmer, Eric Shanteau, who remained 0.22 seconds behind the bronze medallist and submitted a time of 2 minutes and 09.28 seconds. In the meantime, Michael Jamieson of Great Britain occupied fifth fastest spot of the event, as
he stayed nearly two seconds behind Shanteau and produced a time of 2 minutes and 10.67 seconds. Giedrius Titenis of Lithuania was the sixth finest swimmer to conclude his swim, as he remained 0.30 seconds behind Jamieson and posted a time of 2 minutes and
11.07 seconds.
He was followed by Woong Choi Kyu of Korea, who remained 0.10 seconds slower than Titenis and posted a seventh fastest time of 2 minutes and 11.17 seconds. Kyu maintained a lead of 0.12 seconds over his following swimmer, Andrew Willis, who touched the finessing
wall last and secured eighth spot of the event in a time of 2 minutes and 11.29 seconds.
The crowd appreciated the outstanding swims of all participants, whereas, the winners were awarded with medals and accolades for their wonderful swims in four-lap event after the completion of the session.
