Daniel Gyurta conquers Men’s 200m breast-stroke title - 2011 Hungarian Long Course Nationals
Daniel Gyurta of A Jovo SC Veolia conquered the Men’s 200m breast-stroke title on day four of the 2011 Hungarian Long Course Nationals.
The 22-year-old Gyurta won the title of the 200m event in a thrashing time of 2 minutes and 10.45 seconds. He was almost five seconds ahead of his following swimmer, David Verraszto, who touched the wall for the silver medal in 2 minutes and 15.42 seconds.
BACSVIZ-KVSC-KESI’s Peter Tejes followed them on the finishing wall for the bronze medal, by clocking a stupendous time of 2 minutes and 20.15 seconds.
Gyurta was almost three seconds slower than his national record of 2 minutes and 07.64 seconds. The Hungarian champion has also pocketed a silver medal in the 200m breast-stroke at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games. He won the gold medal in the same category
at the 2009 Rome World Championships, whereas, he conquered a silver medal in the 200m event at the 2010 World Short Course Championships in Dubai. He regained the title of his main event at the 2010 European Championships in Budapest.
The champion defended his national title with great audacity, leaving his fellow competitors at a prominent distance. Ferenc Kagan of Kobanya Sport Club followed him on the finishing wall as the fourth fastest swimmer, by producing a time of 2 minutes and
22.80 seconds. He was 2.98 seconds fastest than his subsequent swimmer, Angeli Aron’s BHSE, who finished his swim in a fighting time of 2 minutes and 25.78 seconds.
Kristof Kertesz of Fort Lauderdale concluded his swim in the sixth fastest spot, by touching the wall in a time of 2 minutes and 31.89 seconds. Osvath Artur of Szhalombattai VUK SE stayed almost one second behind Kertesz and touched the wall for the seventh
finishing spot, with timing of 2 minutes and 32.99 seconds. Mark Papp was the last swimmer to touch the wall, as he clocked a time of 2 minutes and 33.09 seconds.
Gyurta was happy with his title winning effort and expressed that he will continue to defend his title at the upcoming championships.
