Daniel Gyurta improves world record of Men’s 200m breaststroke – 2012 London Olympic Games
Hungarian swimmer, Daniel Gyurta improved world record of the Men’s 200m breaststroke on fifth day of the swimming events at the 2012 London Olympic Games in London Aquatics Centre on Wednesday, August 1.
The 23-year-old Gyurta served notice of his talent in the playoff of distant breaststroke discipline. With his impeccable pace, he not only sustained his top qualification spot of the event but also set the new world record.
His alluring pace placed him marginally ahead of his strongest challenger over the finishing end as he occupied gold medal of the discipline with the timing of 2 minutes and 07.28 seconds.
His record-breaking performance remained 0.15 seconds faster from Michael Jamieson of Great Britain, who followed him on the victory stand for silver medal by producing a time of 2 minutes and 07.43 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Ryo Tateishi of Japan, who stayed full body length apart and hit the finishing wall for bronze medal by submitting an effort of 2 minutes and 08.29 seconds.
Tateishi stayed only 0.06 seconds ahead of defending champion, Kosuke Kitajima, who failed to meet expectations of his followers and finished his swim in fourth place by producing a time of 2 minutes and 08.35 seconds.
Subsequently, Kitajima was chased by Scott Weltz of USA, who stayed 0.67 seconds apart and ended his race in fifth best place by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 09.02 seconds.
Weltz was followed by his teammate, Clark Burckle, who was only 0.23 seconds slower from his former finisher and hit the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 09.25 seconds.
Seventh position of the distant breaststroke discipline was obtained by Brenton Rickard of Australia, who was only 0.03 seconds slower from his preceding finisher and hit the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 09.28 seconds.
Rickard was chased by Andrew Willis of Great Britain, who completed his swim in eighth best place by clocking an effort of 2 minutes and 09.44 seconds.
In addition, Gyurta was extremely pleased with his notable efforts in final round of the 200m discipline.
