Daniel Gyurta seizes Men’s 200m breaststroke gold - FINA Swimming Championships (25m)
Daniel Gyurta of Hungary seized gold medal of the Men’s 200m breaststroke on day three of the 2012 FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) at Sinan Erdem Dome in Istanbul, Turkey, on Friday, December 14.
The Hungarian swimmer showed no mercy to his challengers in the distant backstroke discipline as he rushed his way towards the finishing end for gold medal.
With his scintillating form, Gyurta remained prominently ahead of his toughest challenger and stepped on the victory stand for gold medal by producing a time of 2 minutes and 01.35 seconds.
The champion was followed by Michael Jamieson of Great Britain, who stayed 1.65 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 03.00 seconds.
The second position holder remained 0.08 seconds ahead of Viatcheslav Sinkevich of Russia, who occupied bronze medal of the event by touching the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 03.08 seconds.
The third position holder was followed by Akihiro Yamaguchi of Japan, who stayed 0.15 seconds slower from his and settled on the finishing end for fourth position by hitting the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 03.23 seconds.
Fifth position of the race was secured by Andrew Willis of Great Britain, who stayed 0.06 seconds slower and touched the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 03.29 seconds.
Willis was chased by Christopher Burckle of USA, who was 0.29 seconds behind and surfaced on the finishing end for sixth place by clocking an effort of 2 minutes and 03.58 seconds.
Subsequently, Burckle was traced by Marco Koch of Germany, who was only 0.10 seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing end for seventh place by posting a time of 2 minutes and 03.68 seconds.
Last spot of the event was obtained by Yukihiro Takahashi of Japan, who stayed 1.24 seconds slower and posted an effort of 2 minutes and 04.92 seconds.
In addition, Gyurta received a huge round of applause from the audience for his commendable form in the race and received medal and accolades at the victory ceremony of the tournament.
