Daniel Hudson shines as Arizona Diamondbacks defeat Los Angeles Dodgers 4-1 – MLB Update
The Arizona Diamondbacks’ starter Daniel Hudson outclassed the Los Angeles Dodgers in both forms of the game to take his club into a 4-1 series grabbing win in rubber fixture of the three-game series at Chase Field in Phoenix on Sunday, July 17.
The 24-year-old right hand hurler started the game with his devastating pitching and destroyed the Dodgers complete batting line-up. He held the Dodgers scoreless in his first six innings, providing a chance to his batters to take an advantage.
Third baseman Ryan Roberts took the benefit in the shape of a 400-feet long striking homer off the Dodgers’ starter Ted Lilly in the bottom of the second inning. However, none of the other batters could generate something special with their bat. It forced
Hudson to take the batting responsibility to his own and he launched 378-feet long dazzling one-run homer off Lilly in the sixth inning to post a 2-0 lead.
While pitching, he had given just three hits until the sixth inning but allowed an RBI single to the Dodgers’ Rod Barajas in the seventh inning. However, his manager expressed full confidence on him and kept him tossing in next innings.
"I think my pitch count was low enough to where he still trusted me that I had good stuff to go out there the next inning," Hudson said. "We had the lead.”
Hudson went for one run on five hits and struck-out three batters in his full game to snatch his 10th win of the season. His 2011 season record now has moved to 10-5 with 3.56 ERA. He made another run in the top of the seventh inning to cement
the D-backs’ 51st win of the season.
It was the embarrassing situation for the Dodgers’ manager Don Mattingly, as Lilly again lost a game. In his last game against the San Diego Padres, Lilly had made his first win since June 11 after four straight losses. However, he did not reflect any anguish
from his words in a conversation with the reporters.
He said. "It is not one of those I will look back and say I shouldn't have did that. I know Hawk has to throw strikes. I could not give them another shot at Teddy. I think I would do that every time."
Dodgers have lost 53 games in the season, which is one of their worst records and now they have to face the defending World Series champions San Francisco Giants on Monday night. It will be a difficult task for Mattingly to keep up the morale of his players,
if they dropped to the Giants.
