Daniel Hudson’s economical pitching helps Arizona Diamondbacks beat Minnesota Twins 3-2 – MLB Update
Arizona Diamondbacks’ starter, Daniel Hudson was impressive with the ball as he threw eight solid innings with an ERA of 3.82 and struck out six batters in the Diamondbacks’ 3-2 win over the Minnesota Twins at Chase Field, Arizona on May 22.
After this convincing victory, Hudson expressed his feelings as, “We're rolling on a lot of cylinders right now. It feels good. Everything's kind of going good right now -- our hitting, pitching, fielding. So I think we're taking a streak on the road in
a good spot.”
The pitchers were on top from first to third inning as they restricted the batters to score no run. During fourth inning, Jason Kubel was flown out to left-field position while Danny Valencia got out on a grounder at third base. As a result, the Twins were
score-less while the Diamondbacks added two runs in the fourth inning.
Juan Miranda struck a one-run homer (425 feet) to centre-field and Xavier Nady scored one run on the single-run shot of Hudson for the Diamondbacks. Henry Blanco shifted to second base and the Diamondbacks went ahead with 2-0 at the end of fourth inning.
The Twins posted their first run in the fifth inning and cut-off their deficit to 2-1 when Delmon Young singled off left-field.
Francisco Liriano was grounded out to second base while Rene Rivera occupied the third base at the top of fifth inning. No score was contributed by any batter during the sixth inning. Both the teams scored one run each in the seventh inning to move the score-board,
3-2. The Diamondbacks were leading at that time.
For the Twins, Young homered (400 feet) towards left-field. On the other hand, Ryan Roberts hit a sacrifice fly to centre-field and Willie Bloomquist posted one run to give the Diamondbacks a persuasive lead.
The Diamondbacks’ reliever, J.J. Putz pitched the last inning for his first save and did not give away a run. He said of the game plan, “This whole weekend, this whole home stand was starting pitching. That set the tone for everything to get us in position
to score some runs and let the bullpen come in and finish things off.”
Liriano displayed a shaky performance as he pitched six innings with an ERA of 5.73 and allowed two runs on six hits.
