Daniel Kosakowski blows off Tim Smyczek in three sets in 1st round – Farmers Classic 2011
The Farmers Classic Cup 2011 warmed up at the LA Tennis Centre as Tim Smyczek of USA competed against his fellow countryman Daniel Kosakowski in a three setter match in the 1st round. This was the second time the two
had gone head-to-head. The hard circuit was cleaned up as the fans took their seats as the two rivals entered the court. Kosakowski bounced back from a set down to secure a 2-6, 6-1, 6-3 victory over Smyczek in a little over two hours.
Ranked at world No.211, Smyczek made it to the main draws as he won against the South African Rik De Voest. Aged 23, the American made his magic work in the Farmers Classic 1st round as he fought till his strings broke.
Unfortunately there was one to stand at the top. Never the less his effort was much appreciated.
On the other hand, the successor of the match, Daniel Kosakowski, world No.482 had a mesmerising evening. The 19-year-old has been working his way up in the rankings. With hard courts his favourite, the American proved to be a
stronger link of the match. The right hander played a superb match and was the deserving winner.
The match started off with Daniel serving for the opener and giving away the first breakpoint of the match. The first three games were back-to-back breakpoints for the two. With scores at 2-1 to Tim, the 23-year-old served and
extended his lead to 3-1. He then again won a breakpoint on Daniels serve in game 7 to lead 5-2 and finally taking away the set 6-2.
Daniel once again served first and opened up the 2nd set of the match and saved a breakpoint, rolling the scorecard to 1-0. The 19-year-old increased his lead to 3-0 winning a brilliant breakpoint of game 3 of the second
set and the next on his own serve. Tim finally got a breather game but the 1-3 lead was too much. The young American proved to be electrifying as he shook his countryman winning the next three games and the set 6-1 and levelling the match scores to 1-1.
The concluding set of the match started off with Tim getting the advantage first serve. The scores moved up as both players won games on their respective serves and levelled up at 3-3. The 23-year-old blundered and gave away a
breakpoint turning the match tables. This breakpoint gave an advantage to his fellow countryman and with perfection the 19-year-old Daniel booted the next two games, concluding the final game with another breakpoint and ending the set 6-3 and the match 2-1.
The final scores of the match were 2-6, 6-1 and 6-3.
The 19-year-old American fought like lion beating his senior with pure precision and exactitude. Daniel now sits in the 2nd round of the Farmers Classic where he will play Latvian Ernests Gulbis.
