Daniel Martin leads general classification of Tour de Pologne 2011 as he wins yellow jersey
Daniel Martin managed to take the lead over former leader Peter Sagan as both were in the bunch of leading riders after ten kilometres in to stage 6 including Diego Ulissi, Morris Possoni, Patxi Vila, Oscar Pujol, Jacek Morajko, Michal Golas, Laurent Didier,
Nelson Oliveira and Thomas Rohregger.
Rain started with 28 kilometres to go in the race and almost whole of the track was affected as the rain’s intensity was further increased with 12 kilometres to go in the race at the Tauron climb.
Martin decided to speed up and accelerated as he told a famous cycling website about the stage, “I wanted to win the stage and I forgot the general, At one point I thought it was possible to win because I took ten seconds very quickly but then I saw the
big group behind me and I rode easier to wait for it.”
He launched his second attack during the last 600 metres towards the finish as he was in front of Sagan who was suffering from cramps towards the end of stage 6. Martin believed that none of the cyclists really attacked the stage may be because of the rain
as he said, “it was a pretty negative race.”
Slovakian player Sagan who finished 16th at the end of stage 6 was cheered by fans across the border still believes that he has the chance to take the race away from Martin and other race leaders and is looking forward to the 128 kilometre final
stage 7. “I’m only 3 seconds behind Martin. I’m going to go for the intermediate sprints,” he mentioned.
Martin however believes that his chances to win the Tour are not very bright but is delighted on winning the jersey and is looking forward to his team-mate Heinrich Haussler to support him in the final stage of Tour de Pologne.
Daniel Martin won the stage 6 as he finished the 207.7 kilometre stage in a total time of 5:41:05 with Wout Poels 1 second behind at second position and Marco Marcato at third position with 4 seconds behind.
Top three players after the stage 6 general classifications are Daniel Martin, Peter Sagan and Marco Marcato with first, second and third positions respectively.
