Daniel Owen defends Bo Williams Ocala City Amateur Golf Championship
Daniel Owen successfully defended his title at the Bo Williams Ocala City Amateur Golf Championship with a three-stroke victory over Tyler Hock on Sunday, August 26, 2012.
Through the opening nine holes, he tied for the top spot with Hock. However, he made a strong charge on the back nine of the course and settled for a 32, for a round of 67.
“It was tight between Tyler and I there for a while,” Owen said. “I played well on the back nine and it always feels good to win here”.
Right from the start of the tournament, Owen showed a consistent performance at the Ocala Golf Club, as he remained bogey-free throughout the two-day event.
He was amazing with his ball striking and complemented it with his superb putting technique. Moreover, he also remained calm throughout the day and never let his opponent take control of the game, till the end of the tournament.
On the other hand, Hock also had a great opening round on Saturday, as he shared the top spot with Owen, after posting an impressive 65.
However, his second round score of 70 was not enough to challenge his rival on top of the leaderboard.
According to Owen, it was a great pleasure for him to end the tournament once again as a winner, as it allowed his name to be listed on the trophy for the second time, against one of the best players in the history of the game – Bo Williams.
“The course was in great shape and I have been practicing, and any time that you get your name on a trophy with Bo Williams it's special,” Owen said. “Plus, it's always exciting to win a tournament at Muni”.
In the meantime, Walter Himelsbaugh also defended his title in the Senior Division, as he recorded a three-stroke victory over Warren Wilhite and A.J. Kroeger.
“Anytime you win a tournament it's exciting,” Himelsbaugh said. “I putted real well (Sunday) and I really like playing this course since they redid it. It was true”.
He now aims to continue his momentum going into the Labor Day Classic and the U.S. Senior Amateur Qualifier over the next two weeks.
