Daniel Ponce De Leon nails Eduardo Lazcano to grab the WBC USNBC featherweight title – Boxing News
Daniel Ponce De Leon, the current WBC United States (USNBC) featherweight champion, recently added another title to his waist by collecting an impressive unanimous decision against Eduardo Lazcano, the former WBC Latino super featherweight champion, in a
10-round bout held on May 4, 2012.
With this win, Daniel is now the WBC United States (USNBC) super featherweight title. The ring for the bout was stretched at the renowned Hard Rock Hotel and Casino situated in The Joint, Las Vegas, Nevada, United States.
The event was promoted by Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions and the above duo headlined the Friday night show. The night was co-headlined by the 10-round non-title show down between Ishe Smith and Ayi Bruce.
Daniel is finally again on the win track and definitely in an impressive rather inspiring way. The 31-year-old American orthodox recently collected two consecutive losses from Adrien Broner and Yuriorkis Gamboa and was quite depressed at the scenario.
After the time lapse of three months and undergoing series of strenuous training, Daniel made a comeback in a bout against Omar Estrella with the vacant WBC United States (USNBC) featherweight title up for grabs.
In that 12-round showdown, Daniel adopted an aggressive stance and knocked Omar out in the sixth round hence grabbing the featherweight gold. De Leon was entering in his careers 47th bout and boasted 43 wins with a huge 35 by sheer knockout. Daniel,
in almost all the significant facets, possessed a clear upper hand over Eduardo who was in his 27th bout.
Lazcano, 26, is a young surging Mexican pugilist who has nailed 24 of his total opponents and boasts 11 of his wins via knockout. De Leon outclassed Eduardo not only in the win ratio but also in the knockout and experience facet as well.
During the first three rounds of the bout, Eduardo just kept on taking the beating and did not put forth any startling performance. De Leon took ample advantage of this fact and connected many well targeted jabs.
Lazcano started to show his presence in the ring during the fourth round when he moved in full throttle and connected a huge right hand jab which rattled Daniel’s senses. At that particular moment, Eduardo made a pivotal mistake of not capitalising De Leon’s
situation since he did not move forward at all to continue his wave of jabs.
In the fifth round, it was obvious from Daniel’s tactics and movements that he is cautious and will not allow Eduardo to replicate the fourth round jab. This whole scenario continued till the end of the bout and all the three judges eventually allocated
a unanimous score of 100-90 to Daniel.
With this win Daniel now has the WBC United States (USNBC) super featherweight and featherweight title in his possession. Eduardo, unfortunately, was unable to defend his three-bout win streak and collected his career’s third loss.
