Daniel Ponce de Leon: Yuriorkis Gamboa is a good fighter but I have fought the best in past – Boxing
The current World Boxing Council Latino Featherweight champion and a former World Boxing Organisation World Super Bantamweight champion, Daniel Ponce ‘El Leon’ De Leon reckons he will appear on the top in his mega showdown with the current Unified International
Boxing Federation and World Boxing Association Featherweight champion, Yuriorkis Gamboa.
The Mexican pugilist Daniel Ponce de Leon and the Cuban undefeated warrior, Yuriorkis Gamboa, who has won all of his 20 professional fights, with 16 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, are both set to meet in a 12-round featherweight rumble on Saturday,
September 10, 2011 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. Leon believes he will be the first man to beat Gamboa in the ring.
Both boxers along with their respective promoters, Bob Arum and Ahmet Oner for Gamboa, and Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, for de Leon, hosted a media press conference on Monday to promote their fight.
The 31-year-old Leon, who holds a record of winning 41 of his 44 professional fights, with 34 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, told the media he cannot wait to become the first man to beat Gamboa, as he believes he will get a world title shot
afterwards.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “Gamboa is a very good fighter. He is tough. But I fought the best in the past. I fought them all and I’m looking forward to this fight because after this – a world title fight.”
The 29-year-old Gamboa, who won an Olympic gold medal in the flyweight division at the 2004 Summer Olympics, on the other hand was in no mood of any trash talk. Gamboa remarked he does not want to do any talking as he will prove himself on the fight night.
Gamboa insisted, “A very good boxer, but I am not here really to talk about the fight. I am going to show it on September 10 in the ring. From there we will go on.”
