Daniel Ricciardo believes James Key will hopefully move Toro Rosso forward in 2013 – Formula 1 news
Toro Rosso driver Daniel Ricciardo believes that James Key, who has joined them as technical director, will hopefully move their team forward in the 2013 Formula 1 season.
Key has been considered as one of the most talented engineers in the sport. Moreover, he signed a contract with the Faenza based squad at the Italian Grand Prix and took over Giorgio Ascanelli.
Ricciardo has said that Key has arrived in their team with highest hopes and optimism which will definitely prove out to be good for them. However, he said that nothing can be predicted about the coming season, but they are looking forward to come up stronger
and are aiming to make the necessary developments during the winter testing.
“From what I've seen at the track he's quite an optimistic guy, quietly spoken but you can tell he gets word across,” Ricciardo said. “He's definitely got high aims and he's very ambitious. I haven't seen it with my own eyes in factory, but I can visualise
what's happening and I think it's good. I don't want to get too carried away, but we have high hopes that we will move up the grid. But until it happens we won't get too excited, but it looks promising for now.”
Besides, he said that they need to develop a more competitive car for the next season in order to attain better results as compared to this year.
“There was only so much James and the guys could have done for this year,” he said.
In addition, he said that they will have to keep on making the necessary advancement in their car during the next season so as to compete well with their main rivals as the competition is going to be very tough.
The Australian driver secured 18th place finish in this year’s drivers’ championship with 10 points. Furthermore, he remained ahead of Vitaly Petrov of Caterham and behind his teammate, Jean-Eric Vergne.
On the other hand, Toro Rosso came 9th in this year’s constructors’ standings and it will be exciting to see how they show up in the next season.
