Daniel Ricciardo calls Romain Grosjean ‘idiot’ after Monaco GP crash – Formula 1 news
Daniel Ricciardo has claimed that he managed to control his aggression after the accident caused by Romain Grosjean during the Monaco GP and only called the latter an ‘idiot.’
The Toro Rosso driver stated, “It was a disappointing end to a deeply unsatisfying weekend and I didn't want to waste the energy yelling 's***w you, what the h**l were you thinking?' I just said 'you're an idiot', and that was it. The impact from the Grosjean
crash was pretty hard but the car did its job and I was able to walk away.”
Following the crash, the Lotus driver has been given a 10-place grid penalty for the Canadian GP, which will definitely hamper his chances of a strong finish.
Looking at that, Ricciardo added, “For myself it was a trip to see the stewards. I'm not surprised Romain picked up a penalty: we were in the stewards' office together and, to be honest, I didn't need to say much.”
The Australian driver was not really disappointed with the outcome of the race, as he was already outside the points. He had started the race from 12th on the grid, but did not have the speed to challenge for a points finish. Moreover, the Monte Carlo track
does not allow the drivers to overtake easily, so most of them finish in the same place they start the race.
However, there will be plenty of overtaking opportunities in the Canadian GP, which is the next stop for all the teams. Ricciardo will be looking to forget the previous event and deliver a strong show next time around.
On the other hand, Grosjean will be greatly disappointed with the penalty he has received. He scored a podium in Canada last year, but will find it difficult to repeat that show this time around.
The French driver was involved in numerous incidents last season and was criticised by rival teams for his rash driving. This year though, he had been enjoying some clean races until the Monaco GP. There will be immense pressure on him in the upcoming event.
If he fails to complete the race, his team might start thinking of hiring a new driver for the next season.
