Daniel Ricciardo feels pleased with Red Bull run in the Young Driver Test – Formula 1 news
Toro Rosso driver Daniel Ricciardo has said that he is feeling really happy with his run with Red Bull Racing in the Young Driver Test at Silverstone circuit despite going a little bit off the track in RB9.
Ricciardo drove for his own team in the morning session of the second day of the YDT and successfully gathered some essential data about the car. Afterwards, he came out on RB9 and set the third fastest time. Furthermore, he completed 59 laps and collected some valuable data to make the necessary evaluation about the car’s updates.
The Australian driver expressed that he is really happy with his performance in the test. Moreover, he said that although he went off a little in the start, he had a trouble-free session with the Milton Keynes based team. Nevertheless, he admitted his mistake.
“It was good fun,” Ricciardo said. “It was a busy day so at the moment it's a bit of a blur, obviously jumping out of one and in to the other.”
“I did quite a few laps but I was happy with how it went. I had a small off earlier but I think it was a pretty trouble-free day,” he explained.
“It was my mistake really,” he said.
“I saw them, they weren't really busy in the garage so I thought 'I'll give them a job to do, clean the car!' It was just a small error,” he added.
It will be important to mention that the 24-year-old has been considered as one of the potential replacements of Mark Webber who is going to retire at the end of this season. Even though, nothing has been finalised about Red Bull’s driver line-up for next season, Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus has been deemed as the strongest candidate to fill the vacancy.
The Aussie is presently standing at 14th place in the drivers’ championship with 11 points. Additionally, he is ahead of Nico Hulkenberg of Sauber and behind his teammate, Jean-Eric Vergne.
It will be exciting to see how he performs in the approaching races and whether he will be able to make his way into the Milton Keynes based squad in the future.
