Daniel Ricciardo says Pirelli tyres helped him improve his skills a lot – Formula 1 news
Daniel Ricciardo has hailed Pirelli tyres and believes he has made a breakthrough with them ever since they were re-introduced to Formula 1.
Ricciardo made his Formula 1 debut with Hispania Racing Team. At the last race in Korea, he finished ahead one of the Virgin drivers’ who are considered HRT’s main rivals.
He is confident of making even better progress and said, “I think definitely at the last two races, I've been pretty pleased with those and we are aiming for these kinds of performances.”
“We know generally Virgin has more pace than us, so if we can mix it in the race then it's normally a sign of a good result. Particularly Korea, we had probably nine dry laps coming into the race and it was still a bit new to me but we got on with it and
really gave them a really good fight,” he added.
As there were big updates to the HRT car, Ricciardo has expressed that the improvement lies with the Pirelli tyres. They have a bit more life and performance.
Ricciardo will be partnering Narain Karthikeyan at HRT as the first and only confirmed Indian born driver to participate at the first ever Indian Grand Prix. Ricciardo expressed that he was pleasantly surprised by HRT’s decision to ask Tonio Liuzzi to step
aside to make way for Karthikeyan.
Talking about the new Buddh International Circuit, Ricciardo said that it will be a good one for overtaking. He said that it looks similar to the Shanghai circuit but with a different approach. Overall, it has a bit of everything, which is quite unique and
nice to see as the point of a new circuit it to cater something different not just for the drivers but also for the fans, he said.
It will be interesting to see how the inaugural event turns out. From the looks of it, teams and fans alike are geared up for a historic opening to the circuit.
Friday’s first practice session will give some indication on how exhilarating the race will turn out to be. The action begins on Sunday, October 30, 2011.
