Daniel Ricciardo wants to keep on scoring points in the remainder of 2012 season – Formula 1 news
Toro Rosso driver Daniel Ricciardo has said that he wants to keep on scoring reasonable points for his team in the remainder of the 2012 Formula 1 season after showing impressive pace in Singapore Grand Prix.
Ricciardo performed quite convincingly in the last race held at Marina Bay Street Circuit and secured 9th place finish. Afterwards, he said that he is extremely delighted with his result in the preceding race as he managed to score some crucial points for his team.
“It doesn't hurt,” Ricciardo told The Age. “Every time I get points it's good and particularly with this team. It hasn't been easy to crack the top 10 at the best of times, so every point helps - and to get two is a mini-podium, in a way.”
Moreover, when he was asked about whether his future is secured in F1 or not, he responded that if he keeps on performing well in the forthcoming races, he can surely secure his race seat in the next season. In addition, he said that he earnestly wants to continue on improving his pace in the approaching races.
Besides, he said that they must enhance their qualifying pace in the upcoming races as he has not been able to secure higher grid slots in the season so far.
“Put it this way, if I can keep a few more of these results coming, I think so. It's definitely on the right path to secure a seat. It isn't a podium, but realistically, it's good. I still want to keep improving. I wasn't particularly happy with qualifying, to be honest,” the Australian driver added.
At present, the 23-year-old is standing at 18th place in the drivers’ championship with 6 points. Additionally, he is just two points behind his teammate, Jean-Eric Vergne who unfortunately retired in the previous race because of his collision with Mercedes driver, Michael Schumacher. Furthermore, he is ahead of Timo Glock of Marussia who has not been able to score even a single point in the season until now.
It will be interesting to see how he performs in the approaching races.
