Daniel Slabbert, Christo De Jager lead the first round of the Nedbank SA Disabled Open

Daniel Slabbert, who is currently playing the Nedbank SA Disabled Open, appears set to create a history at the South African Disabled Golf Association event.
The tournament is being played at the prestigious Langebaan Country Estate. Most of the disabled golf players reached the venue before the tournament.
The first round is over now. Slabbert impressed the spectators, fans and other players for finishing the first round with appealing scores.
He shot a 5-over 77 in the first round. His scores were matched by Christo De Jager. They both are the current leaders, dominating the leaderboard.
They both played well and are leading over Iglin Grobbelaar and Reinard Schuhknecht by five strokes. Grobbelaar and Schuhknecht are the most renowned players, as they have won the SA Open Championship two times in the past.
Slabbert was nervous throughout the day. However at the end of the day, he looked happy after seeing his name on the top of the leaderboard.
“I was a bit nervous, so I’m glad to get the first round out of the way and I can now focus on the next two days,” Slabbert said.
The weather in the first round was really tough. All the players faced tough challenges while scoring. Slabbert's performance, under such troubling conditions, is impressive.
“It was a good start, but I left a few birdie putts out there. The greens are very tricky and it’s hard to read them correctly. But overall I’m hitting it solid so I’m happy with that,” he said.
De Jager delivered his best and competed well for the leading position. He also faced challenges while scoring, but use his skills and tied with Slabbert.
“I feel very satisfied. I shot a 90 in the practice round so I wasn’t expecting much. Daniel is a good golfer and we all know it. I don’t know about a win for me, but I’ll give it my best,” De Jager said.
Slabbert is a young golf player and less experienced when compared with De Jager. Hence, De Jager enjoyed the competition with the young lad and is planning to beat him in the upcoming rounds.
