Daniel Sliwinski and Simon Burnett clinch titles - British Gas ASA National Championships 2011
After the exciting performance of Rebecca Adlington in the Women’s 800m freestyle final, two more British swimmers, Daniel Sliwinski and Simon Burnett won the gold medals in the Men’s 50m breast-stroke and 50m freestyle finals at the 2011 British Gas ASA
National Championships in Sheffield, on June 16, 2011.
Firstly, Sliwinski took home the Men’s 50m breast-stroke title with a winning time of 27.76 seconds and improved to eleventh spot in the international rankings. Placed second in the corresponding race was Matt Shead with a time of 28.12 seconds, whereas,
Christopher Steeples rounded out the top three in 28.72 seconds.
Afterwards, the Men’s 50m freestyle crown was taken over by Simon Burnett with a sterling time of 22.24 seconds. The effort also improved him to fifteenth spot in the world rankings.
While speaking about his performance in the Men’s 50m freestyle final, Burnett said, “I'm very happy with that and I’m quite surprised at the time, it is a lot better than I expected and a lot faster than I’ve been in a long time.”
Matthew Tutty snatched the silver title with a time of 22.73 seconds and Richard Schafers earned bronze medal after he touched the finishing wall with a time of 22.86 seconds in the respective meet.
Meanwhile, Burnett claimed, “My coach and I have really concentrated on the things I do very well and tried to make the most of those to help with my performance. I haven’t swam at those types of speeds for a long time and hopefully next month in Shanghai
I can step it up again.”
With his thrilling performance in the respective meet, Burnett is now confident to put up a better show in the 100m freestyle tomorrow. Both, Sliwinski and Burnett are specialised swimmers in freestyle and breast-stroke styles.
The performances in the respective meets have aided swimmers to move into the FINA 2011 World Championships in Shanghai with more confidence and determination. Additionally, the British swimmers are also training hard for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
