http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international felt the senior players at the club were
important in leading the Blues to success this season.
After back to back defeats to Queens Park http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 in the English Premier League, Chelsea are currently nine points behind league leaders Manchester City. If they are to remain title contenders, the Blues have to step up their performances.
Unsurprisingly it has been the senior players at the club who have been blamed for the poor form. The likes of skipper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Florent-Malouda-c13838 have all been blamed for the poor recent performances.
However, Sturridge did not think it was fair to blame the senior players for the poor form. Instead he insisted the youngsters at the club needed the experienced players to help guide them through the tough domestic and European competitions.
Sturridge said while speaking to reporters:
“The disrespect I've seen towards the likes of JT and others is ridiculous. When times get hard, these are the sort of players who set up to the plate.”
According to the former Manchester City man, he felt it extremely disrespectful that some of his teammates had criticised the captain. He said it was time for the young players at Stamford Bridge to stick together and learn from the senior players.
He revealed:
“Ashley Cole, JT, Lamps, Didier - these are the players which keep the team going. They are the heart of the team.
They have been here a lot longer than I have, or any of the younger guys coming through have. They're the ones who are paving the way for us.”
He felt the youngsters would not be able to perform well if they did not have the guidance from the likes of all the experienced players at the club. Sturridge believed that they could learn a lot from Terry and company and do well in the current season.
Sturridge continued:
“The younger players wouldn't be able to perform when faced with adversity - because we're not used to it. It's a big change for us.
But the older players have been through it.”
