Daniel Tranter claims Men’s 200m IM gold – EnergyAustralia Swimming Championships
Daniel Tranter of SOPAC claimed gold medal of the Men’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) playoff on day six of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Swimming Championships at the South Australia Aquatic and Leisure Centre in Adelaide on Tuesday, March 20.
The 20-year-old Tranter stifled hopes of his opponents as he accomplished gold medal of the discipline and proved his eligibility in the Australian team to the 2012 London Olympic Games.
He remained considerably ahead of his strongest competitor and team-member, Jayden Hadler and emerged on the victory stand for gold medal by posting a time of 1 minute and 58.19 seconds. His dazzling performance placed him 0.80 seconds ahead of 18-year-old
Hadler, who achieved silver medal of the IM discipline by ending his swim in a time of 1 minute and 58.99 seconds.
The third spot of the discipline was secured by Thomas Fraser-Holmes of Miami, who was just 0.03 seconds behind and completed his swim in a time of 1 minute and 59.02 seconds. The bronze medallist stayed 0.55 seconds faster from Kenneth To of Trinity Grammar,
who ended his swim in a time of 1 minute and 59.57 seconds.
Moments later, the session witnessed gruelling efforts of Tessa Wallace in the Women’s 200m breaststroke. The 18-year-old Wallace impressed the aquatic crowd by seizing gold medal of the discipline with an effort of 2 minutes and 26.31 seconds.
With her blistering performance, she remained 0.20 seconds ahead of Sally Foster of Central Aquatic, who posted a time of 2 minutes and 26.51 seconds for silver medal. The 26-year-old Foster stayed nearly two strokes faster from Taylor McKeown of Australian
Crawl, who clinched bronze medal of the discipline by tapping the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 26.90 seconds.
McKeown remained in a lead of 0.72 seconds over Leisel Jones, who failed to secure any medal and ended her swim in fourth fastest place by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 27.62 seconds.
In addition, the crowd acknowledged magnificent efforts of all contestants in their respective playoffs while McKeown and Tranter are delighted to represent Australia at the upcoming Olympic Games.
