The Bayern Munich defender is hopeful of recovering from a foot injury and is targeting a quick return to action.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Belgium-c2850 international suffered a fractured metatarsal in the match against Borussia Monchengladbach two weeks back and recently underwent surgery. The defender admitted that he feels much better after the surgery and hopes
to continue training in the next few weeks.
Van Buyten claimed that he had twisted his foot inside the boot after a challenge from Monchengladbach striker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marco-Reus-c23733. The player stated that he knew that the injury was worse as he was unable to walk and had to call for medical
attention.
“I knew at once that something had gone. But after just a few steps I knew it was impossible. The bone had moved and the pain was getting worse,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The former Olympique Marseille player is satisfied with his progress and is confident of a quick rehabilitation process. He played down rumours that the injury has ended his season and claimed that he will definitely return to
action sooner rather than later.
“I'll be back. I'm having a lot of treatment to bring down the swelling. This isn't a new situation for me, and I know the character I am. The season is far from over,” he continued.
The 33-year old refused to name his return date as he is unsure when he will achieve full fitness. He insisted that the medical team is working hard with him and a comeback can be on the cards in the next few weeks. The player
stated that the physios will be able to determine when he can train with the first-team squad.
“I'm not planning anything, and I don't have any sports rehab goals at the present time. All I can do is listen to the physios and let the medics decide,” he concluded.
Jerome Boateng will be replacing Van Buyten in the heart of defence at Allianz Arena and Rafinha is expected to reclaim his role as the right back. The Belgian’s injury could be costly for the Munich giants with the knock-out stages
of the UEFA Champions League approaching later this month.
