Daniel Vettori announces break from international limited overs cricket for an indefinite period of time – Cricket News Update
Former New Zealand captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Daniel-Luca-Vettori-c52306, has taken a break from the limited overs format of international cricket for an indefinite period of time. However, the left arm spinner will keep on playing for the Black Caps in Test matches.
Vettori announced his resignation from Test captaincy after the Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Cricket World Cup 2011. He also announced his retirement from T20 internationals earlier this year.
However, the 32-year-old cricketer captained the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the fourth edition of the Indian Premier League this year, and plans to carry on playing in the cash-rich league in the future.
Vettori, who is considered as one of the best left-arm spinners in modern day cricket, believes that Test cricket is the ultimate goal of a cricketer and he intends to save all his energy for the longer version of the sport.
He said, "My reason for taking a break from the shorter forms of the game is primarily so that I can preserve my body and continue to represent the Black Caps in Test cricket.
The Northern Districts’ cricketer has so far played 105 Test matches for his country, in which he has grabbed 345 wickets at an average of 33.98 runs per wicket. On top of that, the left hander is averaging in 30s with the bat as well, with the help of six
centuries at the highest level of the sport.
The all-rounder has plans of making a return to the international limited overs cricket in some time and intends to represent his country in the next ICC world cup, which is going to be played in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 in 2015.
"I also believe a break now will give me the best possible chance to take up one-day cricket again in the next couple of years and, if all goes well, make the Black Caps World Cup team for 2015," Vettori added.
His absence is going to be a huge loss for the Kiwis but this situation is also going to help the Back Caps http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Young-c98322 spinners.
