Daniel Vettori bemoans IPL defeat against Mumbai Indians
Captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore, Daniel Vettori, is highly grieved at his team’s loss against the Mumbai Indians. The Bangalore squad met a nine-wicket defeat in the Indian Premier League on Tuesday, 12th April 2011, on their home grounds of M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
The Mumbai Indians, in their second successful fixture of the tournament, pursued the easy 140-run target set by Bangalore, by amassing 143 runs with 9 balls remaining.
Vettori, however, has vowed on behalf of the Royal Challengers that the team will bounce back with greater vigour in the next matches of the series.
"I think particularly for lot of us who have lost our first game in front of Bangalore crowd, so we felt that we have let them down with that performance. It is kind of sinking game of season but we are going to pick up ourselves pretty quickly,” claimed the cricket veteran.
The squad is looking forward to the remaining games of the Indian Premier League to prove their mettle.
"We have got couple of quick games in row and it is important that we play well because Mumbai obviously is one of the favourites and Chennai next. So it is keep going on and you just have to pick up every time," he added.
Yesterday’s game slipped out of Bangalore’s grasp mainly due to their below-par batting. The team that lost two of its players at a measly score of 19 runs, continued to struggle with the bat throughout their innings. Bangalore performed completely out of flare. Tillakaratne Dilshan slammed a half century but lacked a winning approach. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AB-de-Villiers-c887, who managed a tally of 38 runs, seemed like he was forced to play against his will. The duo eventually settled in for singles after they failed to find gaps for playing their strokes.
Dilshan later explained that the pitch had a spongy bounce making it difficult to bat.
