New Zealand’s veteran left-arm spinner Daniel Vettori has expressed his disappointment at having to pull out of the team’s final Test match against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760, owing to a groin strain he sustained during the first match in Antigua.
“It's not what you want, I think, particularly when they're only playing test matches now, you want to be able to contribute fully to a tour and to pull out halfway through is very disappointing,” the 33-year-old said.
Skipping the limited-overs series during New Zealand’s tour of the Caribbean, Vettori joined the national side for the extended-overs leg of the tour – a 2-match series which followed disastrous performances by the visitors in the shorter format of the game.
The all-rounder displayed impressive form during the tour match against the West Indies Cricket Board President’s XI, claiming 6 for 48. A veteran of 112 Tests, the first match, played in Antigua from July 25 to 29, saw Vettori becoming http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754’s most-capped
Test cricketer.
Although he only managed to claim 1 for 124 in 51 overs during the Windies’ first innings, he was effective at restricting the run flow, registering an economy rate of 2.43. However, the Kiwis will be unable avail his services for the second Test match at
Jamaica, due to be played from August 2 to 6, after the left-armer sustained a groin strain on the third day of the first Test.
“Dan had some discomfort while in the field on day three of the first Test match with assessment confirming an adductor injury,” said New Zealand physio Paul Close. “It was managed during the match but further assessment has indicated he will not be fully
fit in time for the next Test.”
“Dan will return to New Zealand where here will be monitored closely and undergo a period of rehabilitation,” he added.
In addition to ruling him out of the final Test, the injury also raises doubts regarding the prospect of Vettori’s participation in the Black Caps’ Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hyderabad-c792 on August 23. Meanwhile, specialist spinner Tarun
Nethula remains the only other spin option available in the Kiwi squad to serve as a replacement for Vettori.
