Daniel Vettori jubilant after last ball win over Pune – Cricket News Update
Ecstatic after a last-ball win over Pune Warriors India, the Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper, Daniel Vettori, said that the six-wicket win over Warriors was the elixir his team needed.
A competitive total of 182 was chased down by the Gayle led RCB batting line-up on the last ball of their chase. The explosive RCB opener, Chris Gayle provided the side with an outstanding launch pad with a whirlwind 81-run knock
off just 48 deliveries, which also included five straight sixes off Rahul Sharma in the 13th over.
The hosts needed 21 runs off the final six deliveries with AB de Villiers and Saurabh Tiwary at the crease. The Pune skipper Sourav Ganguly tossed the ball to the most experienced bowler Ashish Nehra, but the lanky pacer failed
to stand up to his skipper’s expectations as the well settled RCB duo plundered three sixes and a boundary to take the side home on the last ball off the chase.
Vettori said that after three defeats on the trot, they needed this win adding that it will lift the momentum of Royal Challengers going forward.
“Under these circumstances, where we lost quite a few matches on the trot, it was important to get back to winning ways,” said the New Zealander at the post match press conference.
“We needed this win and it’s a great momentum shift to do it under these circumstances. It was a really tough chase for us. But the way the guys responded was amazing. The way they pulled it off deserves a lot of appreciation. It was
the elixir our team needed,” he added further.
Replying to a query regarding their game plan before the match against Warriors, Vettori said that they wanted to stick to the basics and had decided to concentrate on their fielding and bowling to restrict the opposition to a gettable
total.
Warriors' skipper, Sourav Ganguly, said that they had the game under control for the most part, conceding that the last over was a bit expensive.
Bangalore will next play Punjab at Mohali on April 20, while Warriors will face defending champions Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk the next day.
