Daniel Vettori licks his wounds after whitewash
A disappointed New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori has vowed to put up a better show in the upcoming World Cup after their team endured a 5-0 whitewash at the hands of a rampant Indian team away from home. The loss follows the stunning 4-0 reversal against
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 which has put their World Cup preparations in disarray.
The tournament is set to be played in the sub-continent and Vettori and his management have some serious issues to ponder on as they prepare for the home series against another sub-continental team Pakistan.
Vettori has no answers to explain the predicament of his team that has plummeted to absolute depths after scoring a 200 run win over the Indians in the first match of a three-nation tournament in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 earlier in the year.
Since then they lost the remaining matches of that tournament before going down to Bangladesh and India.
The Black Caps are the only team that have experienced playing in all three World Cup venues less than 12 months before the tournament starts, however, the move has backfired big time and their confidence has taken a serious battering due to their string
of defeats.
About the tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 the bespectacled Vettori claimed that his team was one of the most formidable teams in world cricket which is a favourite for the tournament.
"I think I have led the team as well as I can. We understand the result. They change me if they feel there is a need to do it." He has captained http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 in 73 ODIs. "India scored over us because they struck a balance in every department in the Tests
as well as the ODI series. We were not consistent. One day we batted and bowled well but the other day we didn't. In one-day matches you have to display some specific abilities like the ones India showed."
"India have been the leading team in Tests in recent times. They are an experienced side with some remarkably talented batsmen and bowlers. I think cricket fans would be keen that they play some lively cricket and win."
There have been hardly any positives for the Black Caps in recent months yet Vettori singled out left arm pace man James Franklin who proved his worth with two well made fifties in the Indian series. In the fourth match he was absolutely destructive smashing
98 of 69 balls, he took 22 runs of the last over of the innings bowled by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashish-Nehra-c46293.
"Franklin has been in and out of the team but he has performed well on this tour," Vettori, who is also a New Zealand selector, said. "There are about three guys competing for that [the all rounder’s] place in the World Cup team, but James has proved himself
worthy of a spot."
The New Zealanders are set to play most of their World Cup matches in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh; they have the likes of Pakistan, Sri Lanka, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kenya-c752 to contend within the tournament.
Their passage to the quarter-finals is more or less guaranteed unless they succumb to one amongst http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045.
The easy format of the tournament means that one good game in the quarter finals can see them in the semi-final stage and from thereon it becomes anybody’s game.
The format gives them hope that they can yet bounce back and repose confidence amongst their fans who must be regretting their abysmal display recently.
For the time being though they have to work hard against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 and topple a team that is on a confidence low itself.
