Daniel Vettori ready for knee surgery
The Kiwi skipper of Royal Challengers Bangalore, Daniel Vettori, is back home to get complete medical treatment including a knee surgery due to an injury which has kept him out of the game on and off.
Vettori picked up the injury during an ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 group match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755. He dived for a catch and hurt his knee in the process.
After a few days rest, he was able to play again, however, the injury did not fully recover.
Vettori had been leading the Bangalore side in the IPL. His team holds the top slot on the points table with 17 points.
However, his injury intensified recently and he was advised to take a break and undergo medical treatment.
The Indian young cricketer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Virat-Kohli-c95424, led the team in place of Vettori.
Vettori got an MRI scan ten days ago in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and found the injury to be somewhat severe. The doctors recommended a cleanup surgery.
The surgery and recovery will take a lot of time and in all probability, he will not be able to return to IPL.
Talking to the media, Kohli said, “Hopefully he (Vettori) will try to get back and be fit for upcoming games. We will have to wait and watch what happens. It is a very big loss for us.”
Royal Challengers Bangalore are going to take on Kings XI http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833 today, May 17, 2011. Analysts suggest that Vettori’s absence may affect the team’s performance. Moreover, the side has been deprived of danger man, Tillakaratne Dilshan.
The 32-year-old Kiwi All-rounder, has mastery over the shorter formats of the game and possesses a good track record in T20 cricket. His vast captaincy experience makes him even more instrumental.
Vettori himself is much dejected with the situation and wants to be with his team at this stage when play-offs are going to start.
