The visitors managed to draw the match which eventually resulted in a series win for them.
Vettori will be leading his team in the limited formats of the game but he may end his tenure as captain of the team completely after the end of the ICC World Cup 2011 which is scheduled to start from 19
February.
The star all-rounder took over the charge from Stephen Fleming in 2007 and had hinted on many occasions that he may consider quitting from the captaincy role after the mega event in 2011.
Vettori would have liked to end his reign as Test captain on a high note but unfortunately for him, things didn’t work out well. They lost the two-match series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 by 1-0.
Commenting on his future role as the limited over captain, he said, “I made that decision three-and-a-half years ago and that's it. My timing was always to step away after the World Cup and that stays the same.”
The veteran all-rounder stated that his career in Test cricket was certainly not over and he will be representing his team in the future as a senior member of the team.
His tenure as Test captain was not very promising. The team won only six matches under his leadership out of which four were against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 and one each against England and Pakistan. The Kiwis lost 16 matches during his reign and drew 10.
The 31-year-old all-rounder said that there will be some regrets as he wanted to do well for his team and lead his team to historic victories. He claimed that he always gave his 100 per cent to the team and did whatever was in the best interest of the Kiwis.
Although Vettori failed to bowl out Pakistan on the final day of the second Test match, he did score a first innings century to help his team post a respectable total.
The Kiwi skipper was hopeful of a good future in cricket for New Zealand. He said that there are some talented cricketers in the team and if they deliver according to their talent, it would be great for the team. He further said that the team desperately
needs some good fast bowlers as well.
Vettori will lead his team in the 2011 World Cup and will be hoping to do well to end his tenure as captain on a high.
