What did Daniel Webster mean by this quote as it refers to the compromise of 1850?

  1. The Compromise of 1850 resolved a number of long-standing spelling disputes between the USA and Britain.  Webster was referring to the "useless" addition of the letter 'u' in words like colour and armour, which his dictionary omitted.


  2. he meant there was no need to rule out slavery in the west/new territory because it would not be prudent for ppl to take slaves to the area.  in other words the will of god - slaves not being in certain areas - would rule out the need for a man made law.
