Daniel Wells ecstatic after qualifying for two-year pro tour: 2012 World Snooker Q School
After putting up a superb display of snooker skills in the second event of the 2012 World Snooker Qualifying School (Q School) at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield, Wales’ Daniel Wells was able to earn a place in the next two professional circuits.
The Welsh potter defeated Michael Wasley by the score line of 4-3 in the quarter-final stage of the event to ensure his victory.
While speaking to Wold Snooker, Wells said, “I've never felt emotion like it. It's a different type of pressure to what I have been through before and it would have been very tough to lose in the last round and have to play in the last Q School event.”
The Welshman added, “Last season was the worst of my career. Around January I was on the verge of packing the game up because I couldn't hit the cue ball. I was scared to hit the ball and couldn't release the cue. I lost to Craig Steadman in a PTC event
and he actually said he felt sorry for me.”
Wells started his Q School campaign with a superb victory against Mark Vincent by the score line of 4-2 in the opening round of the tournament. This victory gave him the confidence to move ahead and play better. He faced Ireland’s Josh Boileau in the second
round and beat him by a whitewash score line of 4-0 displaying impressive potting skills.
Wells’ third round clash against India’s Lucky Vatnani was yet another stunning victory for the Welshman as he cruised into 4-1 score line to oust his opponent. The third round victory was another boost to his snooker skills as he was just two steps away
from the pro tour spot for the next two years.
The 23-year-old Wells faced compatriot Ben Jones in the fourth round and with the help of some stunning snooker shots, he was able to defeat him by 4-1 to surge into the quarter-final stage where he faced Michael Wasley. The quarter-final clash was a tussling
encounter as both players were neck-to-neck to drag the match into the decisive frame where Wells was victorious. It will be interesting to see what impact Wells can make during the professional circuit.
