The Bayern Munich defender is confident that the Reds would get the better of the Ligue 1 side in the first-leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final.
Bayern Munich’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-Van-Buyten-c10095 has revealed that his team is capable of beating Olympique Marseille in the first-leg of their Champions League quarter-final. Both teams will lock heads on Wednesday, March 28, at the Stade Velodrome
before the return fixture on Tuesday, April 3.
The centre-back stated that Marseille possess better attacking options than http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Basel-c39079 and it might be tougher to beat Les Phoceens at home. He mentioned that Bayern have recently shown positive results and if they continue playing
in the same manner then there is no reason that they could return to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 without another positive outcome.
Van Buyten specified that the Bavarians will have to be on their toes especially in the away fixture. He referred to the Basel clash in the previous round where his team took the Swiss outfit lightly and suffered a 1-0 loss away
from home.
While talking to official club website, the 34-year-old further added:
"Marseille are a shade better than Basel. That we lost the first leg in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Switzerland-c3016 should be a warning to us. However, we have the quality to come away from Marseille with a really good result. They're going through a difficult
phase at the moment, but they've also been very unlucky.”
The former Hamburg defender admitted that the French side are currently going through a lean phase but still urged his teammates not to relax against a side which dumped http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan out of Europe. Van Buyten confirmed that the
Munich giants are superior in experience and quality to Marseille and should emerge as comfortable winners over the two legs.
“It's always dangerous against a team like that. We'll have to be incredibly wary. The atmosphere at Marseille is very similar to Naples, so we have some relevant experience," the Belgian concluded.
Van Buyten is currently nursing a metatarsal injury which he suffered in the game against Borussia Monchengladbach immediately after the mid-season break on January 20.
