Daniela Hantuchova; A look at her performance in 2010
Born on April 23, 1983 in the city of Poprad, Daniela Hantuchova is a professional tennis player from Slovakia. The twenty seven year old Daniela who turned professional back in 1999 is currently ranked number twenty nine in the
world by the Women Tennis Association. Daniela is currently playing under the supervision of Larri Passos, who is working as her coach.
As far as 2010 performance is concerned, the Slovakian tennis sensation started the tour by playing at the Brisbane International tennis tournament. The fourth seed Daniela couldn’t surpass her quarter final round as she was upset
by Andrea Petkovic in straight sets. The final match score was 6–4, 6–2.
At the Medibank International competition in Sydney, Hantuchova was toppled by the fifth seed and ultimate winner Elena Dementieva in the second round in three sets. The final match score was 6–2, 4–6, 6–2.
Seeded number twenty two at the year’s opening Grand Slam, the Australian Open, the Slovakian was overpowered by the eventual semi finalist Li Na in round three in Melbourne with a score line of 7–5, 3–6, 6–2.
The right hander Hantuchova next played at the 2010 Monterrey Open where she was seeded number two to win the title. She started off her tournament’s campaign with an impressive victory over the top seed Jelena Jankovic in straight
sets. In her next round battle, the Slovakian got past her unseeded opponent Vania King in a three setter clash to reach the quarters. The final match score was 2–6, 6–2, 6–1. After getting the better of fourth seed Dominika Cibulkova in the final four battle,
the Slovakian eventually fell in the final at the hands of Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in three sets. The final match score was 1–6, 6–1, 6–0. It was Daniela’s first final since Linz back in 2007.
At the clay court French Open Women’s competition in Roland Garros, the twenty three seed Hantuchova upset Yanina Wickmayer in her third round clash before falling down at the hands of fourth seed Jelena Jankovic in the round of
sixteen.
The 1.81 meters tall Hantuchova next took part in two championships on grass. She was first outlasted by Samantha Stosur of Australia at the AEGON International Competition in Eastbourne, and was then upset by Barbora Zahlavova
Strycova at the grass court Grand Slam in London.
The twenty seven year old Daniela then started off her United States series by competing at the Bank of the West Classic in Stanford where she was defeated in a tough first round clash against the sixth seed Shahar Pe’er in three
sets. The final match score was 0–6, 6–4, 6–3 .
At the Mercury Insurance Open in San Diego, she successfully managed to upset Marion Bartoli in her opening round match in three sets. The final match score was 3–6, 7–6(3), 6–4. She then got the better of Zheng Jie and Alisa Kleybanova
to make her way into the semi final round where the Slovakian was eventually beaten at the hands of Agnieszka Radwanska in straight sets.
The Monte Carlo resident then fell in the opening rounds of both Cincinnati Masters as well as Toronto to the ultimate semi finalist Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Flavia Pennetta respectively.
Seeded number twenty four at the year’s final Grand Slam, the United States Open in New York, Daniela Hantuchova toppled Dinara Safina and Vania King before falling to Elena Dementieva in the third round.
Hantuchova next fell in the initial rounds in both Pan Pacific and China Open in Beijing. The Poprad born is next scheduled to contest at the BGL Luxembourg Open in Luxembourg.
