Daniela Hantuchova / Agnieszka Radwanska win Sony Ericsson Open Doubles title against Liezel Huber / Nadia Petrova
Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia teamed up with Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland to take the doubles crown of Sony Ericsson Open at Miami, Florida, after defeating the third seeded pair of Liezel Huber of the United States and Russian
Nadia Petrova. The winning duo strained hard for one hour and forty six minutes before taking the gold at 7-6(5), 2-6, 10-8, on the Sunday night’s clash.
An amazing game of women’s doubles was witnessed at Miami with Hantuchova and Radwanska winning the battle of nerves to clinch the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) title. They won a hard-fought opener before losing the second set
to their rivals but bounced back into the game to conclude victory in the decider.
Hantuchova and Radwanska made a perfect pair and combined their efforts with great mastery to outclass the third seeded duo. They served brilliantly with 75 per cent accuracy and conceded away just one double fault, in contrast
to five from their opponents. Huber and Petrova had a shaky start to the game but looked in a devastating mood in the second set, which they won with the utmost ease. The third seed pair dropped their game in the decisive third set, ending on the losing side
of the game.
A magnificent display of power hitting and aggression was observed in the opening set as the two teams strived to take the early advantage. Hantuchova and Radwanska were the first to break serve at 3-2, only to be broken in the
very next game by their opponents. They won 73 per cent first serve points while Huber and Petrova collected 75 per cent in the first set.
A routine game then took the opener into a tie breaker round, with the scores levelled at 6-6. Hantuchova and Radwanska kept their focus in the game and reeled off four straight points in the decider to bag the first set at 7-6(5).
Tide turned in the following set as the third seeded duo made a terrific comeback in the game and won 10 out of 12 first serve points. Huber and Petrova registered two serve breaks in the second set as Hantuchova and Radwanska
appeared in a state of confusion. Some minor errors on their part allowed Huber and Petrova to take the competitive advantage and rocket away to 6-2, winning the second set.
It all came down to the decisive third set and an enthralling contest was observed as both teams fight hard to take the glory. The two pairs served with 78 per cent accuracy but the mental resilience of Hantuchova and Radwanska
put them one step ahead of their opponents. They won two crucial points consecutively to end the nail biter at 10-8, winning Sony Ericsson Open at Miami.
