Daniela Hantuchova crushes Sara Errani to win PTT Pattaya Open
Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia comprehensively beat Italian Sara Errani in straight sets 6-0 and 6-2 in the Sunday final of the PTT Pattaya Open to take her first Women’s Tennis Association title in four years. The contest lasted a mere 76 minutes as the
Slovak claimed the Championship.
The 23-year-old Sara Errani certainly proved to be no match to the world No.29 Hantuchova. The Slovak refused to give any advantage to her opponent, by not allowing her to settle in the contest. Hantuchova displayed quality error-free tennis to overwhelm
Errani. Hantuchova managed to cash in on most of the opportunities presented by her rival and very skilfully capitalised upon the weaknesses of the Italian.
Errani failed to provide any resistance to the Slovak in the opener. She couldn’t bear the intense pressure exerted on her from the opposite side of the court. The Italian didn’t hold her serve even once in the opening set as Hantuchova broke her serve thrice.
The Slovak’s powerful ground strokes backed up by her accurate speedy serve, never allowed Errani to get her eye in the game. Hantuchova’s shot selection was timely and her baseline defence was rock solid.
“I really focused on my play, point by point, not giving away anything, I was just trying to get the job done and I was really hungry for another title,” Hantuchova told the press reporters after the match.
The Slovak ignited the game with her typical intensity, trying to pressurize her opponent right from the start. She succeeded in doing so as a series of unforced errors began to flow from Errani. Hantuchova kept breaking the Italian serve and extending her
lead in the opening set without any challenge from her opponent. Her mighty forehand was working perfectly and she blew plenty of winners down the line before she managed an impassable 5-0 lead. The Slovak took the opening five games of the match in barely
twenty minutes. Hantuchova lost the first two set points as she thumped the ball into the net each time. She managed to seal the set in her third chance when Errani hit a forehand stroke long. The opener ended with an emphatic score of 6-0.
The Italian gathered up her skills to fire a break point at the start of the second set and register the first game of the match to her name. She managed an intial lead of 1-0 in the set, but she was unable to match the skills of Hantuchova, as she once
again succumbed under  match pressure. The Slovak won the next four straight games to take the lead once more at 4-1. Errani held her serve for the second and last time in the match before Hantuchova wrapped up the decisive second set at 6-2 with a cracking
forehand winner down the line.
Hantuchova defeated the two time defending champion Vera Zvonareva in the semi-final of the competition in a tough battle, but her victory in the final was quite easy and comprehensive.
