Daniela Hantuchova pulls out of the French Open – Tennis News
World number 18, Daniela Hantuchova, pulled out of the year’s second Grand Slam tournament, the Roland Garros French Open, on Tuesday. She told the officials that she was not ready to compete in the tournament due to some personal
issues. She is now 29-year-old and seeks rest after a hectic season to recover from niggling injuries that has been troubling her throughout the season.
Slovak tennis ace was in terrific form at the start of the season; almost won the season-opener in Brisbane but fell short of just one victory. Quarter-final exit in Apia Sydney international and the third round battering in the
Australian Open at the hands of the former world number one, Kim Clijsters, lessened her momentum.
However, she helped her country to two rubbers win in the Federation Cup tie against France and followed it up with a successful title defence of the PTT Pattaya Open; ousting the likes of Vania King and Maria Kirilenko, on her
way.
The glory was soon over and the miserable time started for the Slovak beauty queen. She lost in the opening round in Doha and fell in the quarter-finals of the Dubai Duty Free Championships to the German tennis ace, Julia Goerges.
Just three matches in Indian Wells and Miami further lowered her morale that continued to haunt her in the Federation Cup tie against Spain. However, she recovered from the first rubbers loss and defeated her opponent in the second
rubbers match to take her country home.
Since April, she is out of action; didn’t take part in Barcelona, Madrid and Rome. She is suffering from small injuries and that is usual at the age of 29 especially for women. Their bones are unable to handle the same amount of
pressure as earlier and force them into injuries and iterative pain that keeps them out of action.
It is a major disappointment for all those fans who wanted to witness the beauty queen of Slovakia battling it out in the field of Paris for the Grand Slam title but considering that she had missed all the previous clay court tournaments,
it was expected that she will announce her withdrawal soon.
