Daniela Hantuchova returns to the Brisbane International in 2013 – Tennis News
World number 32, Daniela Hantuchova, will commence her new season at the Brisbane International tournament that will take place at the Queensland Tennis Centre from 30th December to 6th January, 2013. Former
world number five from Slovakia had a formidable season in 2012; surrounded by several injury-forced withdrawals and major layoffs.
She took part in this year’s edition of the Brisbane International as well and reached the final of the competition before stooping to the Estonian superstar, Kaia Kanepi. It was a terrific start for someone who wasn’t seeded in
the event yet managed to sweep away three superior ranked players including the likes of the eighth seed Dominika Cibulkova, fourth seed Serena Williams and the fifth seed Kim Clijsters.
Hantuchova will have to save all points from this contest that consist of start-studded field with the likes of Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, Victoria Azarenka, Angelique Kerber, Sara Errani, Petra Kvitova, Samantha Stosur
and Caroline Wozniacki; all looking to commence the season at a high-note. It will be a very difficult task for the 29-year-old Slovak to repeat the performance like this year’s edition but there is no doubt about her ability and talent.
It will be the fourth appearance for the Slovak in the Brisbane International tournament. She lost in the opening round of the event in 2009 at the hands of the sixth ranked Italian star, Sara Errani, who ranked 41 at that time.
In 2010, the Slovak registered two victories against the Russian star Ekaterina Makarova, and Hungarian professional Agnes Szavay, before losing out to the former German number one, Andrea Petkovic, in the quarter-final. She had the best result in this year’s
edition of the tournament, hence, that makes it a special place for her to return.
The 29-year-old Slovak hasn’t enjoyed a successful year in 2012. However, she managed to secure her crown at the PTT Pattaya Open but couldn’t couple it up with another good run in any of the tournaments. She lost in the third
round of the Australian Open; didn’t take part in the French Open due to injury. First round exits in Wimbledon and US Open didn’t help her cause as well. So, it is crucial for her to begin the new season with a bang to make sure she sustains her position
in the Top-40 players.
