Daniela Hantuchova wants to break back in the Top-10 – Tennis News
Former world number five, Daniela Hantuchova, is aiming for a return back into the Top-10 players in 2013.
She struggled a lot in the 2012 season, primarily due to the niggling injuries and secondarily to the fact that she never struck the form in any tournament. It was a topsy turvy performance over the course of the year. She was losing the rhythm match in
match out.
She trained with her coach Claudio Pistolesi at the start of the season but took a bold step and shifted to the Academia Sanchez-Casal in Barcelona where she is learning the art under the supervision of Eduardo Nicholas and Emilio Sanchez Vicario.
Commenting in this regard, the 29-year-old Slovak said, “I feel very comfortable training with Eduardo and Vicario. I am very grateful for all I’ve learned.”
Hantuchova who just won a single title at the PTT Pattaya Open is eyeing a more trophies in the following year. She retained her title at Pattaya so the ranking points were not altered with this achievement.
Moreover, the Slovak is now ranked 32 in the world and starts the 2013 season at Brisbane International where she ended as the finalist this year. Therefore, a lot is to be done from the word go to accomplish the goal of breaking back into the elite Top-10
category.
The Slovak confessed, “I think 2012 has been a difficult year for me. Had a great start to the season, making the final in Brisbane, winning in Pattaya and feeling very good about my game, but unfortunately, during the Fed Cup tie against Spain, suffered
a fracture stress on the left foot that kept me away from the tracks for two months (missed the entire clay tour).”
She contested in 51 matches and had an average record of 27-24 in 2012. However, the two of those victories came in the London Olympics.
Hantuchova said, “It was my third Olympics. It was a special moment, especially playing on grass at Wimbledon.”
The 29-year-old Slovak will resume her tennis in the Brisbane International. She must save all her points at the season-opener to stay in the hunt for a comeback in the Top-10 players list.
