Daniela Macias ousts Qufei Chen in group stage of 2012 Pan Am Junior Team Event
Peru’s spirited shuttler Daniela Macias saved country’s honour to some extent by stamping Qufei Chen in group match of XXI Pan Am Junior Team Event on Monday, July 23, 2012.
This encounter, which was the Women’s Singles tie of a Group A match between Canada and Peru, remained in full swing for three games.
Both female shuttlers played their heart out to read final result of 10-21, 21-13 and 19-21 after a 49-minute exercise.
Lots of local badminton lovers assembled at Sherwood Park in Alberta, Canada to support the native shuttler but it was a disappointing day for them as Qufei Chen crashed out in a disgraceful manner.
On the other hand, Daniela looked in prime touch throughout this crucial tie and silenced the crowd with a thundering performance in the first and last sets of the match.
The Peru campaigner started the ball rolling straight away in the beginning of the first set and established an unassailable lead with 7-2 total.
She did not give her rival even a single chance to get settled and enthralled her with a mountainous figure of 11-4.
Later part of the game also belonged to Daniela as she controlled the overall pace of the rallies and bagged vital match point with an overwhelming knock of 21-10.
However, the Canadian player did not remain at the lower end in the next set and gave her supporters something to cheer about.
This time she showed elevated craft and outclassed her challenger in all areas of the game. She unleashed an intensive campaign and confined the opposing shuttler in the rear court.
Qufei Chen found her way to victory by ruling first half with 11-8 and then stamped her supremacy with 21-13 score on the board.
The decider became consequential with this revised balance of scale and both contenders strived hard to tip the scale in their favour.
They did not allow each other to gain a notable advantage and remained toe-to-toe all the way to final moments.
First half ended with 11-10 and match kept swinging between two shuttlers until 18-18 but Daniela proved herself superior by registering a favourable margin of 21-19.
