Daniela Schreiber wins Women’s 100m freestyle semi-final: Day two – European LC Championships
Daniela Schreiber of Germany outperformed her competitors in the semi-final of Women’s 100m freestyle on second day of the European Long Course Championships in Debrecen, Hungary on Tuesday, May 22.
The 22-year-old Schreiber served notice of her talent by dominating the second round of the 100m discipline and becoming the top contender for the title of the event.
She continued her supremacy throughout the double lap event and proved her eligibility for top qualification spot of the event by producing a wonderful time of 54.53 seconds.
She was followed by her team-member, Britta Steffen, who stayed 0.18 seconds apart and qualified into the playoff as second best finisher by clocking a nice time of 54.71 seconds.
Third best qualification spot of the event was secured by Nery-Mantey Niangkouara of Greece, who was just 0.27 seconds apart and emerged on the finishing wall by posting a time of 54.98 seconds.
Her gruelling effort was trailed by Alice Mizzau of Italy, who remained just 0.09 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 55.07 seconds.
Mizzau was chased by Sarah Sjoestroem of Sweden, who remained just a touch behind and entered the final as fifth fastest swimmer by producing a time of 55.14 seconds.
Following that, the session witnessed alluring efforts of Swedish swimmer, Jennie Johansson, who proved her dominance in the Women’s 100m breaststroke.
The 23-year-old Johansson outperformed her opponents by qualifying into the playoff as top fastest swimmer. With her stupendous efforts, she stifled hopes of her challengers and hit the finishing wall with an effort of 1 minute and 07.65 seconds.
She was followed by Sarah Poewe of Germany, who finished her swim in second place by posting a time of 1 minute and 07.70 seconds. Similarly, Poewe was chased by her teammate, Caroline Ruhnau, who hit the finishing end for third position by posting a time of 1 minute and 08.01 seconds.
In addition, the session came to an end after the conclusion of all planned events in Men and Women’s category while these finalists will face each other in the playoff of their respective events.
