Daniela Schulte grabs Women’s 400m freestyle gold – 2012 Paralympic Games
Daniela Schulte of Germany grabbed gold medal of the Women’s 400m freestyle in S11 category on ninth day of the swimming events at the 2012 London Paralympic Games in Aquatics Centre on Friday, September 7.
The German swimmer lived up to the expectations of her supporters in the 400m discipline, where she smothered hopes of her competitors and emerged on the finishing blockade for gold medal.
With her fascinating efforts, she stayed more than a body length faster from her strongest challenger and hit the wall with an effort of 5 minutes and 14.36 seconds for the crown of the event.
Schulte was chased by Amber Thomas of Canada, who stayed 1.12 seconds away from her former finisher and surfaced on the finishing blockade as second position holder by producing a time of 5 minutes and 15.48 seconds.
Thomas was chased by Cecilia Camellini of Italy, who stayed nearly five body lengths apart and found her way to the victory stand for bronze medal by clocking an effort of 5 minutes and 20.27 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the race was secured by Mary Fisher of New Zealand, who stayed nearly two body lengths behind and completed her race in a time of 5 minutes and 22.09 seconds.
Fisher was chased by Olga Iakibiuk of Ukraine, who remained nearly 26 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and tapped the wall with a timing of 5 minutes and 48.02 seconds for fifth position.
Iakibiuk was trailed by Naomi Ikinaga of Japan, who remained 5.18 seconds behind and tapped the wall with an effort of 5 minutes and 53.20 seconds for sixth position.
The Japanese swimmer was followed by Chantal Cavin of Switzerland, who remained prominent for seventh position of the event with a timing of 6 minutes and 11.29 seconds.
Cavin was traced by Nadia Baez of Argentina, who finished her swim in eighth best place by reporting a time of 6 minutes and 15.98 seconds.
Schulte received massive appreciation from the crowd for her astonishing efforts in the discipline and collected medal at the prize distribution ceremony of the event.
