The AS http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 vice-captain admitted that his team did not have the energy levels to compete against La Roja, who were the worthy winners at the Olympic Stadium in Kiev
Italy were riding high from their victory against the Germans, having dominated the semi-final against Die Mannschaft with a brace from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mario-Balotelli-c23937. There was heavy talk that Balotelli might prove to be the difference in the final but he was only able
to muster a few attempts on goal.
The Giallorossi midfielder conceded that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vicente-c36001 Del Bosque’s men were by far the better side and operated on a different level from the rest of the world. De Rossi felt the Azzurri had reached a good level, but remarked that they would only be able to win
a few number of matches.
Italy and Spain had already met in the opening match of Euro 2012, and it was a tight affair with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926 playing the better football. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, and there was optimism within the Italian camp of their ability to overcome the Spaniards.
De Rossi stated that Vicente Del Bosque’s troops were all over the Italians, and the inability of the Azzurri to make any decisive blow was what hurt them. He mentioned that the injury to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Thiago-Motta-c34897 made it impossible for them to attack with real purpose
and continued:
“http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 commanded the game and above all we never really hurt them, as we didn’t have the energy to chase them down. The match was over on the hour mark when we went down to 10 men.”
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wolves-c40952 star stated that the Spaniards deserve all the plaudits and praise they are receiving at the moment, but he went on to state that the Italians did themselves proud too. He remarked that losing by such a big margin was disappointing, but he also
gave an open challenge to any team, to defeat the Spaniards when they were 2-0 up, and mentioned:
“I challenge anyone to play with 10 men against Spain, who are 2-0 up. We could’ve avoided the last two goals, but not much would’ve changed. Spain are a step above everyone else.”
De Rossi was disappointed but he was not disheartened by Italy’s showing at the European Championships.
